Jenkinson’s Boardwalk: A Jersey Shore Fixture Since the 1920s
This article is sponsored by Jenkinson's Boardwalk.
For anyone who grew up at the Jersey Shore (or in New Jersey, for that matter), the Jenkinson's Boardwalk has likely played a part in your core memories. The boardwalk has been an iconic New Jersey fixture since the 1920s, and over its 100-year run, it has added an impressive lineup of attractions to its repertoire. Located at 300 Ocean Avenue in Point Pleasant, this mile-long destination has everything: an aquarium, amusement park, arcade games, oceanfront dining, shopping, and, of course, the beach. Even after all these years, it’s one of our favorite Jersey Shore locales for a family-friendly day trip, weekend getaway, or summer vacation. Keep reading to learn more about the Jenkinson’s Boardwalk in Point Pleasant, New Jersey.
A Brief Run-Down
The Jenkinson’s Boardwalk is a mile-long stretch of boards in Point Pleasant Beach bordering the Atlantic Ocean. It first opened in 1928 as Jenkinson’s Pavilion, a large open-air building on the beach featuring a candy shop, soda fountain, and refreshment stand.
In the nearly 100 years that followed, Jenkinson’s constantly reinvented to keep up with public demand: at various points in time, the space was home to a water park, golf course, fair, and festival. Through its winding and fascinating history, it has remained a key player in the Jersey Shore’s iconography.
Today, Jenkinson’s is a certified landmark, boasting a fun house, a classic Sweet Shop, arcades, gift shops, and games. Here’s a peek at the fun to be had.
Jenk’s Amusement Park + Aquarium
No visit to Jenk’s is complete without a stop at the amusement park, which is packed with rides for thrill-seekers of all ages. Think: kiddie coasters for the little ones, Super Himalaya for the adults. This year, Jenkinson’s also introduced its Boardwalk Bounce Cards, a contactless payment method that grants access to the Amusement Park, South Arcade, Boardwalk Games, and Mini Golf, among other attractions.
Built right into the boardwalk, Jenkinson’s Aquarium is a great place to take a break from the sun without stepping away from the fun (sorry, had to). It’s filled with incredible marine life, including sharks, seals, penguins, and more. The new and improved second floor showcases a variety of habitats, including a touch tank, birds, monkeys, and no visit is complete without visiting Wally the sloth. There’s always something new to learn about marine life and conservation efforts.
Boardwalk Dining
When it comes to food, Jenk’s delivers with Jersey Shore staples: giant slices of pizza from Joey Tomato’s, fresh seafood, clams on the half shell and rooftop views from Boardwalk Bar & Grill, cheesesteaks from Little Mac’s, ice cream from Mr. Softee’s, and, of course, fried Oreos. There’s also no shortage of saltwater taffy and fudge, two crucial New Jersey delicacies to any beach day.
If you can’t decide what to get (those options make it difficult to choose), Oceanside Dining and Pavilion is a great choice for a sit-down meal, with everything from lobster and shrimp quesadillas to sushi to classic boardwalk fast food like fries, burgers, and cheesesteaks. We’d be remiss not to mention Jenks Club, a premier nightlife destination at the Jersey Shore. With beachfront access, the Jenks Club space is huge and almost always has a live band performing. It’s one of our favorites for a night out with friends, and said nights almost always end with a late-night bite in the fast food area.
Events and Entertainment
Throughout the summer, Jenkinson’s comes alive with a packed calendar of events and live entertainment. A fan favorite tradition is the weekly fireworks show, lighting up the sky every Thursday night starting in late June.
Other events like Christmas in July also bring festive fun to the shore with holiday-themed characters, beachy versions of Christmas activities, and something for the whole family to enjoy. Jenk’s also hosts beach concerts, featuring local bands and tribute acts to dance the night away. JSG Pro Tip: Don’t forget about Karaoke night, magic shows on the beach, mermaid meet and greets, and science in the sand events, which happen all summer long.
Jenkinson’s Boardwalk is located at 300 Ocean Avenue in Point Pleasant.
