Its Virginia location is off of I-81 in Rockingham County, a highway that many <a href=\"https:\/\/thelocalgirl.com\/fairfax\/christmas-tree-farm-northern-virginia-va\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Northern Virginia residents<\/a> are familiar with, especially if you went to college or have a loved one in school at Virginia Tech, Washington + Lee, James Madison University, or Radford University. Who better to tell us about what Buc-ee\u2019s is really like than two Virginia Tech sophomores? Perhaps the better question is what <em>isn\u2019t<\/em> Buc-ee\u2019s. There are 55 nationwide locations of the chain, which was founded in 1982 in Texas. In 2006, the business started <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/petercarbonara\/2017\/08\/22\/buc-ees-game-of-porcelain-thrones\/\">adding gas stations<\/a> to the convenience stores. What started as a low-key regional chain of convenience stores took a turn for the enormous in 2012 when it opened the at-the-time world\u2019s largest convenience store, at 68,000 square feet. The gas station is its own large-volume spectacle, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thedrive.com\/news\/worlds-largest-gas-station-is-a-new-buc-ees-with-120-pumps\">80\u2013120<\/a> pumps in operation. The brand holds two <a href=\"https:\/\/buc-ees.com\/about\/world-record-holder\/\">world records<\/a>: one for the world\u2019s largest convenience store and another for the world\u2019s longest car wash.<\/p>\n<h3>Why Buc-ee\u2019s Is Different From a Typical Rest Stop<\/h3>\n<p>At the heart of the brand are its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.forbes.com\/sites\/petercarbonara\/2017\/08\/22\/buc-ees-game-of-porcelain-thrones\/\">ultra-clean restrooms<\/a>. Its opening <a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.virginia.gov\/newsroom\/news-releases\/2025\/june\/name-1052720-en.html\">created 200 jobs<\/a>. There are two more Buc-ee\u2019s locations coming to Virginia. A 2027 opening is anticipated for a location in New Kent County at Exit 211 off I-64, east of Richmond. Another project is planned in Stafford County near Exit 140 off I-95.<\/p>\n<h2>Our Take<\/h2>\n<p>As students at Virginia Tech whose families live in Northern Virginia, Aimee and Audrey have made the trek on I-81 several times over the recent months. Here\u2019s what they shared about Buc-ee\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>The new Buc-ee\u2019s on Interstate 81 has quickly become a popular stop in Virginia because of how convenient it is to access compared to driving into Harrisonburg. For travelers, it\u2019s an easy on-and-off-the-highway experience, making it ideal for road trips or quick breaks. Since it\u2019s Buc-ee\u2019s first location in Virginia, it feels fresh and exciting, drawing people who are curious to see what makes it different.
