She grew up dancing, and the combination of music, movement, and exploration has always been at the core of her personality. While developing her career as an editor, Kimberly picked up yoga and deepened her practice by traveling to different studios locally and around the country to experience different teachers and settings. <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I used to travel all over the US and Canada, taking classes everywhere I went. I soaked it up like a sponge,\u201d Kimberly said. \u201cAt the time, I didn&#8217;t know what it was doing for me. I was just into learning from different teachers and learning the different styles. Going in as both a participant and a student to gain knowledge from those different places.\u201d<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">In 2017, Kimberly went through a yoga teacher training course at her local Corepower Yoga studio and began substitute teaching in 2018. In 2019, she officially founded <a href=\"https:\/\/rocknflowyoga.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rock\u2019N\u2019Flow Yoga<\/a>. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">At the core of the business is Kimberly\u2019s philosophy about making special moments in the class setting. \u201cI wanted to set myself apart from everyone else. In addition to incorporating mainstream music, I wanted to incorporate experiences,\u201d Kimberly said. \u201cI lost a lot of people in my life due to illness. I want to embrace life and make things memorable. I want to do experiences that welcome people of all levels. We go outdoors, indoors, etc. It&#8217;s about community and letting yourself let go and be in the moment.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><b>About Rock\u2019n\u2019Flow\u00a0<\/b><\/h3>\n<p style=\"text-align: left;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">RNF got off to a stellar start: Kimberly was the first teacher permitted to teach on the Mall in front of the Lincoln Memorial. \u201cI knew about Airbnb experiences and thought that would be a good way to get the word out [about RNF],\u201d she said. \u201cI thought the Lincoln Memorial would be a cool place. I researched what permits were needed and got them. I was the first person to teach there.\u201d Kimberly said that the public setting of the class and the inviting nature of the practice meant that tourists and onlookers would take pictures or even join in. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe more the merrier,\u201d Kimberly said. I take teaching seriously out of respect for the practice, but it&#8217;s yoga. Some people are brand new to yoga, and I love that mix of mentality and experience.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cAnd you\u2019re doing something as a group that&#8217;s joyful. Not as dangerous as something focused on drinking,\u201d Kimberly said. People responded, and she started tailoring her offerings to that. \u201cA zen, private session the morning of the wedding to chill you out. People can even gift these private sessions to their friends and family. Photo courtesy of Kimberly Evering.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Upon reflection, Kimberly says that her travels when she was starting her yoga practice helped her cherry-pick what she wanted to offer as an instructor. \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I had no idea how much it would come into play in shaping my business,\u201d she said. \u201cI know what I do or don&#8217;t like. This style of teaching, this pose, and the way it was interpreted by this teacher, and that observation became something that it was never meant to be initially.\u201d <\/span><\/p>\n<h3><b>What to Expect<\/b><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">\u201cThe biggest compliment to me with RNF is when people share how they felt, and it&#8217;s an experience I can relate to. Things like,\u00a0 &#8216;I never thought I could do this, thank you!\u2019\u201d she said. \u201cWe do a doggy class with GMU students before finals to help them de-stress. Students will say, &#8216;That was a great first yoga class, I never knew that that&#8217;s what it could be like, I didn&#8217;t think I could do yoga&#8217; &#8211; that makes my heart explode. She teaches five to eight classes weekly plus special events. \u201cWinter is a lot more workshops, and then spring and summer are classes to work on what we\u2019ve learned,\u201d she said. \u201cSummer is a big time for festivals and special events, a lot of outdoor events are during that time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kimberly teaches regular Zen classes on Sundays in Reston and will have a fall sound bath series in Herndon. Her calendar is frequently updated with special events, such as a November 29th sound bath at the Washington Monument. <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Her three core workshops are: Building Your Confidence: Foundational Poses for Every Yogi\u00a9; Elevating Your Practice: From Effort to Ease With Blocks\u00a9; and Tuning Out the Word + Tuning Into You: Rediscover Your Peace\u00a9.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>See more:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/thelocalgirl.com\/fairfax\/woofbowl-dog-food-truck\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NOVA\u2019s Favorite Food Truck is for the Dogs<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">As far as private events, Kimberly loves working with clients to create the day of their dreams. \u201cProviding people with an experience that is so different based on the people, the music they want, and the location,\u201d she said. \u201cIt&#8217;s never going to be a duplicate.\u201d <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kimberly says her dream class would be a combination of a bucket-list travel destination and a dream list of class participants. \u201cI have loved tree houses ever since I was a little girl. I think they&#8217;re magical; so <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/escape.banyantree.com\/indonesia\/buahan\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Buahan<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (a treehouse resort in Indonesia) with my clients aka warrior crew,\u201d she said. \u201cLady Gaga or P!nk because their music and lyrics have been very influential through the highs and lows in my life over the years. It would be a silent disco yoga flow unlike any other!\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Kimberly is working on advanced training. &#8221; I&#8217;m currently taking a 300-hour teacher training with Yoga Farm Ithaca.
