One of our favorite traditions is the Santa Story Time. Held in a (mostly) heated tent behind the petting zoo, Santa and Mrs. Claus will read Christmas stories and sing holiday songs. There is also time at the end of the activities for a photo op. While it&#8217;s fun for all ages, story time is geared for children over 2.<\/p>\n<p>There are various times available on December 9, 10, 13, and 20 and tickets must be purchased in advance. During the Saturday events, there is an optional s\u2019mores add-on kit.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"self-guided-lights\">\n<h2>Self-Guided Lights\/Holiday Decor Tour<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-231221 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/thelocalgirl.com\/bergen\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/12\/Lights-Bergen-County.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thelocalgirl.com\/bergen\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/12\/Lights-Bergen-County.png 450w, https:\/\/thelocalgirl.com\/bergen\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/12\/Lights-Bergen-County-200x200.png 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The holidays can be super expensive but one of our favorite traditions is completely free \u2013 driving around town and looking for the best lights! <em>[Editor\u2019s note: Does anyone else remember the Elvis House in Mahwah?]<\/em> While there may not be an Elvis singing on these rooftops, there are plenty of houses that go all out. Here are the addresses of some of our past years\u2019 favorites:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>10 Highland Avenue, Hillsdale<\/li>\n<li>50 Academy Road, HoHoKus<\/li>\n<li>Forest Avenue, Lyndhurst<\/li>\n<li>241 Oradell Avenue, Paramus<\/li>\n<li>Egan Terrance, River Vale<\/li>\n<li>Hermann Avenue, River Vale<\/li>\n<li>545 Thurnau Drive, River Vale (set up by the family\u2019s school-aged child!)<\/li>\n<li>Queen Anne Road, Teaneck<\/li>\n<li>23 Frederick Street, Waldwick<\/li>\n<li>65 Lilyan Street, Waldwick<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Don\u2019t miss:<\/strong> Mountain Avenue + Fern Street in the Township of Washington, and Lake Avenue in Westwood \u2014 all with matching coordinated lawn blow-ups.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"light-shows\">\n<h2>Light Shows<\/h2>\n<p>While we love to drive through our own neighborhoods and check out our local lights, it\u2019s also fun to take in an official light show tour. Two great options in Bergen County are <strong>Let it Glow at Bergen County Zoo<\/strong> and <strong>Orchard of Lights at Demarest Farms<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Let It Glow<\/strong> is open Thursday\u2013Sunday from November 6th\u2013January 11th. It is a walking tour with 40+ animal themed lanterns, and your ticket also includes a train ride through the zoo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Orchard of Lights<\/strong> runs from November 22nd\u2013December 30th and has 32 acres of holiday light displays. After driving through the 30-minute light tour, you can stop by the market for photos with Santa, hot cocoa, and make your own s\u2019mores.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"westwood-home-for-the-holidays\">\n<h2>Westwood Home for the Holidays | December 6th, 2025<\/h2>\n<p>While most towns have their own tree lighting celebrations, not many go as big as Westwood\u2019s Home for the Holidays. What started in the 1960s by the volunteer fire department has turned into the town\u2019s biggest yearly celebration.<\/p>\n<p>This is an all-day event starting with shopping specials at many local businesses all day long, crafts and kids&#8217; events in the afternoon, and the main event parade kicking off at 6PM. This year\u2019s theme for the floats is <strong>\u201cEveryone\u2019s Favorite Holiday Movies\u201d<\/strong> and for the first time, it will be live-streamed by the Westwood High School Film and Television program.<\/p>\n<p>Following the parade, there will be a tree lighting, Santa visits, as well as holiday carollers. The parade runs down Westwood Ave ending at Veterans\u2019 Memorial Park \u2014 our favorite spot to watch is in front of the library to catch the tail end.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"ridgewood-tree-lighting\">\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><em><strong>Read More: <a href=\"https:\/\/thelocalgirl.com\/bergen\/motif-bookstore-paramus-nj\/\">There\u2019s a New Independent Bookstore in Paramus: Meet Motif<\/a><\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<h2>Ridgewood Tree Lighting | December 5th, 2025<\/h2>\n<p>Celebrating its 40th year, the Ridgewood Downtown for the Holidays and Tree Lighting event is an annual must for Team BG. All of the local malls, including Garden State Plaza, Paramus Park, Bergen Town Center, and The Shops at Riverside have a resident Santa during the holiday season.<\/p>\n<p>We\u2019re partial to <strong>The Shops at Riverside<\/strong>, where it&#8217;s often less crowded and even has a VIP experience. Reservations are encouraged for all locations.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"model-railway-show\">\n<h2>Model Railway Show | 575 High Mountain Road, North Haledon<\/h2>\n<p>The Garden State Model Railway Club holds a few open house events throughout the year, and our favorite is the Winter Show featuring the Santa Claus Express. Tickets are $10 for adults and free for kids under 10.<\/p>\n<p>It is open from 12PM\u20135PM on November 28\u201330, December 6\u20137 + 13\u201314, and January 3\u20134.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"bergen-pac\">\n<h2>Attend a Holiday Event at Bergen PAC<\/h2>\n<p>The Bergen Performing Arts Center in Englewood is one of the largest performing venues and performing arts schools in North Jersey. There are tons of different events throughout the year, but one of our favorite times to take in a show is around the holidays.<\/p>\n<p>Some upcoming events include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>A Charlie Brown Christmas Live on Stage<\/strong> \u2014 November 29th<\/li>\n<li><strong>\u201990s Hits &amp; Xmas Riffs<\/strong>: Mark McGrath, Kevin Griffin &amp; Emerson Hart \u2014 December 3rd<\/li>\n<li><strong>Old Crow Medicine Show&#8217;s Holiday Hootenanny<\/strong> featuring Bronwyn Keith-Hynes \u2014 December 20th<\/li>\n<li>Holiday classics like <strong>The Nutcracker<\/strong> and <strong>A Christmas Carol<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"decked-out-restaurants\">\n<h2>Dine at a Decked-Out Restaurant<\/h2>\n<p>We love it when a restaurant goes all out for the holidays, and there are some great options in Bergen County.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Allendale Bar and Grill (AB&amp;G)<\/strong> is one of our favorites for wings, and the holiday d\u00e9cor is hard to top.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Charlie\u2019s Place<\/strong> in Waldwick is new to the scene but fully embraces the holiday spirit with garlands, lights, and ornaments covering the ceiling and walls.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Di Palma Brothers<\/strong> in North Bergen is one of our go-tos for classic Italian and even has an antique shop inside. The chandeliers and over-the-top d\u00e9cor make it a favorite stop during the season.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Varrelmann&#8217;s Bake Shop<\/strong> in Rutherford is an old-fashioned German bakery known for Christmas Stollen and adorable holiday window displays.<\/p>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"menorah-lightings\">\n<h2>Attend a Menorah Lighting<\/h2>\n<p>There are various Hanukkah celebrations throughout Bergen County, but one of our favorite traditions is attending a menorah lighting.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Bergenfield<\/strong> \u2014 4th annual celebration on December 16th at 5:30PM at Borough Hall<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bergen County\u2019s Winter Wonderland<\/strong> \u2014 Menorah Lighting on December 20th at 7PM<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bergen Town Center<\/strong> \u2014 Menorah Lighting on December 16th at 6:30PM near the children\u2019s play area, with a choir show<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/section>\n<section id=\"buy-your-tree\">\n<h2>Buy Your Tree Locally<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-231223 aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/thelocalgirl.com\/bergen\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/12\/Tree-Bergen-County.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"450\" height=\"450\" srcset=\"https:\/\/thelocalgirl.com\/bergen\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/12\/Tree-Bergen-County.png 450w, https:\/\/thelocalgirl.com\/bergen\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/5\/2025\/12\/Tree-Bergen-County-200x200.png 200w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 450px) 100vw, 450px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There are tons of options for buying your tree across Bergen County, but our favorite is <strong>Stone Mill Gardens<\/strong> in the Township of Washington.
