About the Business

Dylan Elias was born in New York City but raised in Bergen County for the majority of her life. She originally worked in an ice cream shop, kicking off a career in the restaurant business and working multiple jobs — from a server to a general manager — while learning about the industry. “Before the pandemic hit, I used to host every Sunday for my friends to come over and would cook elaborate meals and dishes. I made a charcuterie board one time for brunch and my girlfriends convinced me to start catering,” Dylan said.

In quarantine, Dylan made a business plan to start her own catering company. “Not knowing when weddings or events would happen, I decided to make a charcuterie board but have it be presented in a box as a gift.” From there, she teamed up with her sister, Alexi Maynard, and started a business together in Ridgewood before moving to their first storefront in Riverside Square Mall in Hackensack in September 2023.

What to Expect

Plated by D stands on the principle of sharing unique plates and platters that look just as good as they taste. The storefront is any picnic lover’s dream as hues of pink and a huge chalkboard accent the walls; an inviting background to the two large tables that will instantly remind guests of resembling lunches at the park. Charcuterie accessories like jams, chips, totes, and even a branded insulated picnic basket decorate the perimeter of the store. The colorful and welcoming setup is sure to inspire even the most timid patron.

While Dylan’s original idea of pre-made charcuterie trays is a part of the business, there is so much more to it. This spot is known for its in-store DIY charcuterie boards, where both a small and large option is available. The boards always feature crackers and include five other categories that make for a balanced palette: cheeses, meats, jams, savory, and fruits. The small option is fit for a snack craving as it includes one of every assortment and two fruits, whereas the large size is great for a meal or to share, and features double the choices of cheese and meat. The menu rotates, so there’s always a new combo to try.

When BG visited, the menu consisted of flavors like pepper jack cheese, turkey, four different jams and mustard, and fresh berries and grapes. While the jams are the considerable standout of all the ingredients, all of the produce proves to be fresh and handled with care by its lively and kind staff. The team takes its charcuterie seriously, taking a trip to Paris in February 2024 to attend the Cheese and Dairy Products Show in order to bring back some French trends to the States.

The business is also known for its charcuterie-making classes, private events, and its Wine Down Wednesdays. Not only does Plated by D provide hands-on experiences in-store, but it’s also a fun brand to follow on social media as its boards are always aesthetically pleasing and colorful beyond compare. The team is always coming up with themed boards for holidays and even the latest pop-culture crazes. For instance, the team had Taylor Swift-themed boards and even a ‘Burn Box’ in honor of the recent Mean Girls movie-musical that was released.

Plated by D also serves up dessert plates, teacher appreciation boxes, custom boards that can be ordered in-store or pre-ordered online, and mini options like charcuterie cups and a s’mores box. The business is always adding new creations to its roster so be sure to check its website and Instagram regularly.
