All About the Martini

While martinis are a classic cocktail, they can become somewhat repetitive. That’s where the team behind the bar at Annabella’s House of Mozzarella comes in, shaking up the martini game with something totally unexpected: the Mozzarella Martini (or as it’s called on the menu, the “Mozzy Martini”). A blend of mozzarella water and vodka creates this special drink, giving it a soft, somewhat savory feeling that’s a whole new way to experience a martini. For an extra touch, the bartenders top it with fresh tomato and a mini cheese ball. For both seasoned cocktail drinkers or those simply in search of something new, the Mozzy Martini brings a modern flair to a beloved classic.

BG’s thoughts: The Mozzy Martini might not be our favorite cocktail ever, but it’s still worth trying at least once. Next time at Annabella’s House of Mozzarella, we would want to explore more of the martini list, like the Limoncello-Tini or the Colada-Tini.

Inside Annabella’s House of Mozzarella

Annabella’s House of Mozzarella is on a quiet road in East Rutherford, just a short drive from MetLife Stadium. Once entering, guests encounter the distinct aroma of Italian goodies; next to the door, a mini grocery section overflows with kinds of pasta, sauces (or “gravy” — but we’ll save that debate for another time), and various other Italian treats. At the front of the space is the deli counter, where one can order sandwiches or browse the cheeses, crackers, and all sorts of Italian delicacies.

The bar is past the deli area — where bartenders shake up cocktails while preparing fresh, homemade mozzarella throughout the day. We stopped by around 6PM, and the man behind the counter was still pulling it by hand. The last section of the restaurant is the dining area, which is roomy and teeming with charming Italian novelties. The atmosphere is undeniably nostalgic, from vintage black-and-white films playing on the TVs to the soft echoes of Frank Sinatra sailing through the speakers. No flashy gimmicks here, just an old-school vibe that transports guests to another time. Welcoming smiles greet customers as soon as they enter the dining space, courtesy of the friendly team.

  • Breakfast: This is served daily from 8AM to 11AM, with a smaller menu. One can find egg sandwiches on ciabatta rolls (no bagels found here), hearty omelets, and even Italian-style pancakes. Best of all, all breakfast items cost under $13.
  • Lunch: One can swing by the deli, order right from the counter, sit at a table in the back, or grab it to-go and revel in the pure satisfaction of tearing into the sub wrapper in the car. A wide variety of subs fills the lunch menu. Some standouts are the Carmine’s Jr., featuring prosciutto, fresh mozzarella, and broccoli rabe, or the Capo Di Tutti Capi, which comes with prosciutto capicolla, sopressata, mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes, and roasted peppers. For those looking for something lighter, there are a few salad options that are easily customizable with protein and mozzarella cheese. Prices vary, but most lunch items are under $20.
  • Dinner: The menu is thoughtfully categorized into Spuntini (small bites), Contorni (side dishes), Pasta, Insalata (salads), Minestra (soup), Pollo (chicken), Pesce (fish), Bistecca (steak), and Pasta Sides. Dinner prices are more expensive, but the portions are huge, making it easily worth it.
